Details

This is a Vintage 1930's Monark Silver king Ladies Bicycle.  Aluminum tubing constructed using "mushroomed" tubes and chromed steel fork blades win no suspension.  Aesthetically the frame is in pretty good condition and has a nice patina from over the years.  The bike is mostly original except that the fenders are not.  The fenders have several dings and dents, and a really bad silver paint.  The crank is the original crank and the block pedals appear to be the a small girls pedal from the 50's, and are very worn.  Tires do match but are not original, they are in good shape nonetheless.  Both front and rear are fully functional.  The bike is rideable but will require some small drive train tuning/lubricating to get back to fully operational.  Very cool bike and with a little tlc and elbow grease would make for a great project bike.
Really neat MW headbadge.
This bicycle has been tuned before it was placed on display 25 years ago, but could possibly need another.

Year is most likely 1935 - Monark only built the windowless lugs in 1935.

This ladies bicycle has the triple step Lobdell rims, window lugs, and hocky stick holed chainguard.

Monark was a unique company that had its start as a battery manufacturer from the early part of the century.  There are quite a few art deco touchs on all of the aluminum models from Monark Silver King.  Lights, head tubes, rear stays, bottom brackets.  The designers must have had fun going from batteries to bicycles.

Monark began building aluminum bicycles under the name Silver King in the 1930s and continued their production into the 1950s. Their unique style and light weight made them extremely appealing. Silver King also developed a monthly payment plan, making their purchase a bit more palatable for depression era consumers on a tight budget. This model is particularly interesting and unusual featuring open “windows” in the lugs.

Made in Chicago, IL, U.S.A.

**No rear stand, no lights or rack, fenders and pedals are not original, steel handlebar, not the winged stem --- nice saddle though.

Steel handlebars, steel round fenders --- missing the truss rods and Delta Silver light, missing the battery tube and any rear light.

The steel chainguard looks to have been chromed, but quite a bit of that has worn off.
Bolts holding on the rear seat stays seem to not be original.
