You are buying a vintage Trek 8700 mountain bike. Hand built in the Waterloo WI USA, this carbon/aluminum mountain bike was the first year for the 8700 model and one of the earlier years of Treks carbon/aluminum mountain bikes. Frame construction was as such (from MOMBAT). The tubes use a Spectra polyethyline sleeve with fiberglass ends to protect against galvanic corrosion. The sleeves are wrapped with 7 layer uni-directional graphite construction of 100% carbon fiber. These layers are then over-wrapped with a bias woven layer for extra strength and protection. The tubes are then bonded to squeeze cast aluminum lugs." Aesthetically this bike is in ok condition with definite fading to the Conch colored aluminum lugs and some scratches and scrapes here and there. The frame and lugs are solid however and mechanically this bike has been tuned by one of our shops mechanics so once re-assembled this bicycle will be ready to ride.
