Giant’s Defy 5 gives brilliant value-for-dollar in an entry-level road bicycle. A hydroformed ALUXX aluminum frame with reshaped tubing produces confidence-inspiring handling, an upright fit, and is lighter than many road bikes in this category. The aluminum fork has a tapered steerer for precise tracking over rough pavement and fast descents. Shimano’s 8-speed 2300 components feature STI dual-control brake/shift levers and derailleurs for precise operation. A SRAM 11-28T cassette works with FSA’s Tempo 50/34T compact crankset for a huge gearing range to help conquer hills and glide across the flats. Giant’s own S-R2 alloy wheels feature stainless steel spokes and are wrapped with 25mm tires for a smooth ride. A performance road saddle, alloy road bars, seatpost and stem give you a comfortable fit. “Entry level” just doesn’t seem to be accurate when describing the new Defy 5.
