The ALUXX-SL frame has exotic shaping called hydroforming to giver the Defy 1 a smooth ride as well as surprising lightness. The press-fit bottom bracket anchors the crankset for out-of-the-saddle climbs. A tapered head tube anchors the carbon fiber fork for excellent feel and control on fast descents. The upright fit allows the Defy 1 to fit a wider range of riders, giving the Defy a appeal to first-time cyclists, and century riders alike. Shimano’s 10-speed 105 components are found at the derailleurs and shifters for easy operation and long component life. A Shimano M565 50/34T compact crankset and 12-30T Tiagra cassette give the Defy 1 a massive gearing range for the steepest of climbs. Giant’s own alloy wheels are laced with stainless steel spokes, giving the Defy 1 a lively ride quality on day-long adventures, while 25mm flat-resistant tires smooth out broken pavement. The Defy’s saddle sits atop a composite seatpost, while a Giant Connect alloy stem and handlebar complete this value-packed machine.
