The latest line of Emonda road bikes from Trek puts an emphasis on light weight, and the Emonda S5 WSD follows that theme. The frame of the Emonda S 5 WSD is constructed of Trek’s own 300-Series OCLV carbon fiber, ensuring feathery lightness across all sizes. The Emonda WSD’s frame tubes are refined for a smooth ride as well as lightness, with size-specific frame tuning across all sizes. The BB86.5 bottom bracket anchors the crankset for effective power transfer, while the E2 (1-1/8"-to-1-1/2") tapered head tube gives the bike confident handling on fast, technical descents. Useful touches include a 3S integrated chain keeper, and an aperture for a DuoTrap ANT+ speed/cadence sensor (sold separately). The Emonda’s carbon fiber fork is also unique to the lineup, with a refined ride and reduced weight as well. Trek’s H2 frame geometry provides a more upright fit with a taller head tube, allowing for a wider range of rider sizes and flexibilities. Need a short standover height? The 44cm size has a 27-1/2” height with 23mm tires.

The new Shimano 11-speed 105 components found throughout the Emonda S5 WSD are a serious leap ahead from the previous generation. The 105 front derailleur is much easier to operate, making gear changes smoother. The levers feature infinite reach adjustability for smaller hands, especially when braking from the drops. A lighter, redesigned 4-arm compact 50/34T crankset is paired with an 11-28T cassette for easy gearing on steep climbs. Even the brake calipers have been improved, with 10% more stopping power. Bontrager’s alloy tubeless-ready wheels are wrapped with 23mm-wide R1 Hard-Case Lite tires for easy acceleration and a smoother ride. A Bontrager Affinity 1 WSD saddle sits atop an alloy seatpost, while shallow-drop VR-S handlebars and a Race Lite stem complete the cockpit of this nimble machine.
