The Emonda SL 5 in particular is also a value leader as well as a performance leader.
The Emonda SL 5’s frame is built with Trek’s exclusive 500-Series OCLV carbon fiber with an eye towards weight reduction and a tuned road feel. Frame shaping emphasizes maximum power transfer with minimum weight. The Emonda SL’s tapered E2 head tube enhances steering precision, especially in fast turns and descents. Trek’s ride-tuned no-cut seat mast and cap features full size adjustability as well as the ability to reverse the seat clamp to simulate the fit of many tri-bikes when adding aero bars. The frame’s press-fit BB90 bottom bracket makes for instant pedaling response with no energy wasted due to frame flex. Internal cable routing keeps the Emonda SL 5 looking clean as well as keeping cables fresher longer. An aperture in the left chainstay for a ANT+ DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) eliminates the need for zip-tied pods. The Emonda SL 5’s more upright H2 fit works with a wider range of rider sizes and flexibilities.
The Emonda SL 5 is equipped with Shimano’s latest 11-speed 105 component group. The adjustable-reach shifters, derailleurs, redesigned 50/34T compact crankset, multi-pivot brake calipers, 11-28T cassette and chain are all engineered to work in concert for smooth operation and long service life. Bontrager’s tubeless-ready alloy Race wheels are shod with 23mm R1 Hard-Case Lite tires for aggressive grip and easy acceleration. A Bontrager Paradigm saddle, alloy Race handlebar and Race Lite stem completes the cockpit of this lightweight climber.
