The Domane 5.2 has been a favorite for recreational riders and competitive cyclists since it was introduced in 2013, and it continues its winning ways today.
The Domane 5.2 is a two-wheeled embodiment of endurance road bicycles: A slightly longer wheelbase for stability over rough pavement. The Domane’s “endurance fit” provides a taller head tube for a more upright fit to accommodate a wider range of riders and rider flexibilities. A re-think of how a road bike can soak up vibration and shock with new frame technology. That last one is where Trek’s Domane stands alone. The 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber used to produce the Domane’s frame results in a feather-light structure -known as Power Transfer Construction- than can help a rider transmit force from the pedals to the rear wheel without energy-robbing torsional flex. Anchoring the crankset is the job of the BB90 press-fit bottom bracket that is both stiffer and lighter than standard threaded units. The bike’s smooth ride quality is party due to how the OCLV carbon material is assembled, but also how the frame’s IsoSpeed decoupler allows the frame to soak up large and small impacts. The frame’s seat tube and Ride Tuned seat mast are allowed to flex vertically around a decoupler at the top tube, absorbing every bump in the road and reducing rider fatigue. It’s just a pair of cartridge bearings and a steel pivot, but it makes a massive difference in how far a rider can pedal with decreased fatigue. Brilliant! The Domane’s all-carbon IsoSpeed fork is not only light but adds an innovative curve right at the dropout. This gets the most out of the material’s ability to soak up vibration further, keeping the rider’s hands, arms and shoulders fresher for longer. The E2 tapered steerer tube anchors the fork for a more precise feel in high-sped turns and descents.
The Domane is equipped with Shimano’s latest 11-speed Ultegra components for easy operation, light weight and a long service life. The Ultegra dual-control shifters have an adjustable reach for smaller hands, while the derailleurs require less hand strength to operate. A 50-34T compact crankset and wide-range 11-28T Ultegra cassette offer effective gearing for challenging climbs. The redesigned Ultegra multi-pivot brake calipers boast increased stopping power as well as improved lever feedback for “threshold” braking. The Domane’s alloy Bontrager Race wheels are tubeless-ready and are shod with 25mm R3 Hard-Case Lite tires for easier acceleration and confident grip. Bontrager also supplies the Paradigm Race saddle, Race X Lite alloy stem and Race Lite IsoZone handlebar.
