A bike truly ready for all-day excursions as well as marathon mountain bike races needs to have every technology at the industry’s disposal. An advanced carbon fiber composite frame? Check. The main triangle of the Anthem X Advanced series uses T-700 raw fibers and hand craftsmanship to produce a custom layup, providing an incredible strength-to-weight ratio. The OverDrive2 head tube uses a 1-1/2"-to-1-1/4" taper for a huge juncture at the front of the frame. The result is a bike with razor-sharp handling, even in technical sections. The press-fit PowerCore bottom bracket ensures that every watt is used in an out-of-the-saddle uphill charge.

A revolutionary rear suspension geometry? Check. The rear Maestro suspension functions like the articulated suspension of a Baja 1000 Trophy Truck: Upper and lower uneven-length linkages provide a platform that is neutral under hard pedaling, while still giving fully active suspension under hard braking on technical descents. The rear triangle is made with ALUXX-SL aluminum for durability and lateral stiffness. 4 inches of air-adjustable suspension travel is provided by the Fox Float Climb-Trail-Descend (CTD) rear shock.

A component list that reads more like a wish list? Check. The Anthem X 29’er 1 is equipped with a Fox 32 Float RL CTD air-adjustable 100mm travel suspension fork with a massive tapered steerer to keep the front end planted. It also features a 15mm thru-axle that eliminates any rubbery feel of the front rim through rock gardens. Shimano’s 10-speed Deore XT components deliver incredible performance as well as industry-leading reliability and durability. The derailleurs, Rapid Fire shifters, hydraulic disc brakes, and 24/38T crankset are all race-ready XT components. The 11-36T cassette ensures a massive gearing range for roller-coaster singletrack. Giant’s own tubeless compatible P-XCR1 29’er alloy wheels are shod with grippy 2.25” tubeless-ready Schwalbe Racing Ralph Evo tires. Even the saddle is a magnesium-railed Fizik Tundra, so no upgrade needed there. The alloy Contact seatpost, OverDrive2 stem and Contact Trail handlebar keep the weight low and the durability high.

If you can have only one mountain bike, wouldn’t this be at the top of the checklist? Check.
