The Superfly 29’er cross-country bike is a standout on the trails and has been winning races for years. Now you can get into a race-ready full-suspension Superfly for under $3K! The frame is still Trek’s own Alpha Platinum aluminum for a surprisingly light and rigid chassis to help you put the power down. The frame’s Active Braking Pivot -or ABP- rear suspension geometry keeps the rear wheel planted and the rear shock active, instead of locking up on technical descents. A press-fit bottom bracket, internal cable routing and a tapered head tube give the Superfly FS 8 the details for tackling muddy trails and fiendish rock gardens. The rear suspension unit is an air-adjustable Fox Evolution Series Float that produces 100mm of rear travel, and attaches to the rear triangle with a carbon fiber swing link. Installed in the tapered head tube is an air-adjustable Fox Evolution Series 32 Float fork, giving 100mm of travel. Even the rebound is adjustable, and the fork/hub interface is a 15mm thru-axle for direct tracking on technical descents.

The drivetrain of a racing mountain bike needs to be reliable, tough and light. Shimano’s 10-speed SLX shifters operate a Shimano Deore front derailleur and a Shimano Deore XT Shadow derailleur for phenomenal reliability in messy conditions. A Shimano SLX 38/24T crankset works in concert with a Shimano 11-36T cassette for a huge gearing range on undulating courses. Shimano SLX hydraulic brakes reign in speed, and provide better lever feedback than cable-actuated brakes. 28-spoke Bontrager tubeless-ready Mustang alloy wheels are shod with XR1 Expert tires, keeping rotating weight low, while keeping grip high. Bontrager also supplies the alloy Race Lite stem, seatpost and handlebar, keeping cockpit weight low. The seatpost is topped with an Evoke 2 saddle, completing a racing machine that can help you win podiums or just bragging rights.
