Trek’s CrossRip line has seen changes for 2014, with a more budget-priced CrossRip that still performs on long day trips, commutes and gravel roads. With clearance for up to 35mm tires, the CrossRip provides versatility and adaptability in one package. The 100 Series Alpha Aluminum frame is hydroformed for weight savings and high strength. Featuring rack and fender mounts, the CrossRip is ready for carrying cargo across town or across the state. The alloy fork also has fender and low rider rack mounts to add to the bike’s Swiss-army-knife personality. Shimano’s new Claris 8-speed components are featured at the shifters and derailleurs, while an FSA Vero 50/39/30T triple crankset gives you ultra-low gearing for steep climbs. An 11-28T cassette ensures a nearly 1-to-1 gear ratio for heavy loads as well. Bontrager Nebula 32-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped with H5 32mm tires for a smooth ride over rough and choppy pavement. Bontrager also supplies the stem, handlebar, seatpost and Evoke 1 saddle. Useful touches include Tektro bar-top brake levers for easy riding in city traffic, Tektro cantilever brakes for sure stopping power and internal cable routing for clean looks.
