Cyclocross might the most demanding sport on a bike on a minute-to-minute basis. Barriers, gravel, sand traps and mud (lots and lots of mud) all make for a rough racing environment. The Boone 5 Disc is more than up to the task with advancements in frame geometry, materials and components.

With input from 11-time national cyclocross champion and World Cup winner Katie Compton, and 2-time world cyclocross champion Sven Nys, the Boone series of carbon fiber cyclocross bikes from Trek have been refined to within an inch of their lives. Trek's 600-series OCLV cabon fiber cuts an astonishing amount of weight from the frame while retaining incredible torsional strength for out-of-the-saddle sprints. Trek's BB90 bottom bracket is net-molded for strength and a precise installation point for the crankset's cartridge bearings. A nimble geometry is needed in cyclocross, and the Boone 5 Disc offers an almost cat-like feel over roots, through mud and around rough corners. Trek's revolutionary IsoSpeed decoupler is found at the seat cluster, improving the bike's verticle compliance over washboard surfaces. A seatmast and cap reduce total weight further while adding more complance. The Boone's OCLV carbon fiber IsoSpeed fork boasts a 15mm thru-axle with a unique dropout position, ensuring an even more precise feel in tight corners. The frame's tapered head tube adds a larger anchor point for the 1-1/2" fork crown. Useful touches abound on the Boone 5 Disc: A 3S chain keeper eliminates chain drop on rough surfaces. Internal cable routing keeps shifter cables clean, reducing the need for cable swaps after muddy courses. A flattened top tube adds comfort every time the bike needs to be shouldered during a run-up. There are even vanishing fender mounts for wet early spring days.

Shimano's 11-speed 105 derailleurs, 11-28T cassette and hydraulic R685 shifters ensure precise operation during messy conditions. An FSA 46/36T Energy crankset brings race-ready gearing to the bike. When the course gets really sloppy and wet, nothing slows you down better than hydraulic disc brakes. Shimano R685 hydraulic calipers clamp down on 160mm rotors for all-weather and all-condition performance. Bontrager alloy wheels feature centerlock disc mounts on the hubs and are tubeless-ready to boot. 32mm Bontrager CX3 Team Issue tires add plenty of bite on a wide range of surfaces. An alloy Bontrager Elite stem, Race VR-C handlebar, and Paradigm R saddle complete the cockpit of this all-conditions racer.
