Fat tires and an off-road-ready frame and fork mean an ultra-heavy bike, right? Not this beast! The Farley 9.6 demonstrates why Trek is a leader is making lightweight dream machines for every season.

Large tires with wide contact patches exert huge amounts of stress on a frame, especially under braking. Usually, that means the frame and fork must be built with heavy, thick-walled tubing that results in a heavy bike. Trek, however, uses its expertise in light carbon fiber off-road frames to build the Farley's high-performance frameset. Built from Trek's proprietary OCLV Mountain carbon material for astonishingly low weight and high strength, the Farley's frame offers excellent stability during hard cornering. There's no rubbery feel under braking either, due to a tapered head tube, 15mm thru-axle front hub and OCLV fork blades. Pedaling response is excellent, due to a PF121 press-fit bottom bracket for the crankset. Also, the rear thru-axle Stranglehold dropouts are adjustable, allowing changes in geometry and perfect brake alignment. Internal cable routing on the Faley offers a clean look as well as improving cable and housing life.

27.5" alloy Bontrager Jackalope wheels are the stars of the Farley's component list, and are tubeless-ready for incredible grip in the snow and mud. Bontrager Hodag tires are also tubeless-ready, and boast a meaty 3.8" width and an aggressive tread. SRAM's GX1 rear shifter and rear derailleur handle drivetrain duties, while the RaceFace Aeffect crankset sports a single 28T chainring. A gigantic 10-42T 11-speed cassette brings a massive gearing range for steep and slippery climbs. Hydraulic Avid DB3 disc brakes aren't troubled with muddy, wet or snowy conditions, adding confidence on every ride. Bontrager also supplies the alloy Race Lite handlebar, Elite stem, Rhythm Elite seatpost and Evoke 2 saddle.
