In only a few years, cyclocross racing has exploded in popularity. Cyclocross bikes have made advances here and there as well, but not like the current crop by Felt. The F4X adds several improvements since last season's still-impressive bike. Felt's proprietary UHC Performance carbon fiber is used along with their InsideOut construction technique, keeping weight low by reducing excess resin. A tapered head tube and BB30 bottom bracket ensure effecive power transfer and nimble handling, especially on bumpy, twisty courses. Adding to power transfer and handling are front and rear thru-axles that improve chassis stiffness further. Internal routing for the rear derailleur cable reduces the need for mid-season overhauls.

 Cyclocross is contested in changing conditions, sometimes going from bad to worse! When the mud flies and it sticks to everything, you need components that won't wave the white flag. Eliminating a front derailleur is a good start, and SRAM's Force Cx1 rear derailleur can put up with peanut-butter mud right from the gun. The derailleur's clutch system -usually found on mountain bike derailleurs- eliminates chain slack and dropped chains. The SRAM S350 crankset features a 40T narrow-wide XSYNC chainring that puts a vice-like grip on the chain and weighs only 73 grams. A SRAM 11-32T cassette offers a huge gearing range for roller-coaster courses. SRAM Rival Hydraulic disc brakes clamp down on 160mm SRAM brake rotors, keeping speed in check on sloppy courses and descents. The F4X runs disc-specific alloy Novatec XCR1700 rims wrapped with 33mm Schwalbe X-One Evo tires for light weight, durability and confident grip. Felt's alloy CXR stem, handlebar and seatpost are matched with a Prologo nago Evo X8 saddle to complete the cockpit.
