Full-suspension mountain bikes seem to get a bad rap: They're ponderous and slow to maneuver due to big wheels and clumsy geometry. The Fuel EX 8 27.5 can change that opinion in only one short ride.
The Fuel EX 8 27.5 uses a mid-sized 27.5" wheel for a more nimble feel than a 29'er. Acceleration, braking and handling are all improved while still gaining the added traction compared to the ubiquitous 26'er. Starting with an Alpha Platinum aluminum frame, the Fuel EX 8 boasts a lightweight and rigid chassis that enhances all other elements of the bike: climbing, power transfer, suspension response and overall handling. A stout PF89.5 bottom bracket anchors the crankset for instant pedaling response. The Active Braking Pivot rear suspension -or ABP- eliminates shock movement due to pedaling, and doesn't cause the suspension to contract under heavy braking. A magnesium EVO link rear shock link reduces weight further and is torsionally the stiffest part on the bike! It is part of the Fuel EX's Full Floater shock mount that allows the suspension to react over a wider range of bumps and impacts. The lower shock mount moves as well, eliminating "sticktion" and giving the bike a smoother feel over washboard surfaces. An air-adjustable Fox Performance Float EVOL shock provides 120mm of rear suspension travel, features a 3-position RE:aktiv suspension damper, and is tuned by Trek's Suspension lab. The suspension fork is also a Fox Performance Float unit with a 3-position damper and a 15mm thru-axle for more nimble handling in rock gardens.
Shimano brings their 10-speed SLX shifters, front derailleur and XT Shadow Plus rear derailleur to the party, adding precise operation under hard pedaling loads. A Shimano 36/22T crankset is paired with a Shimano 11-36T cassette for a massive gearing range for roller-coaster singletrack. Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes do stopping duties. Bontrager Duster alloy 27.5 wheels are tubeless-ready, while 27.5 Bontrager XR3 Expert tires add massive grip on rough trails. Bontrager also supplies the Evoke 2 saddle, Race Lite alloy handlebar and alloy Elite stem.
