Giant's Anthem series bicycles can all boast about Maestro rear suspension, but the SX 27.5 checks lots of other boxes.
The Anthem SX 27.5 is built around a lightweight and impressively strong ALUXX SL-grade aluminum frame. The frame is the heart of what makes a high-performance mountain bike handle well and respond to the rider in a wide range of conditions. Hydroforming and shaping the aluminum tubeset lets Giant's engineers cut weight down and still retain a strong chassis. Torsional strength lets the Anthem SX 27.5 respond better to hard pedaling, and allow the suspension to soak up bumps better. The tapered OverDrive head tube with a 1-1/2" bottom and a 1-1/8" top ensures flex-free handling in rock gardens and gnarly descents. The oversized press-fit Shimano bottom bracket also eliminates flex at the crankset, improving pedaling response. Giant's Maestro suspension is a standard-setting technology that keeps the rear wheel planted with 100mm of travel. The rear triangle moves independently with an upper and lower rocker like a racing car's suspension. An air-adjustable Fox Float Performance Elite shock can be fine-tuned for precision handling. The Fox 32 Float Performacne Elite fork is also air-adjustable, and boasts 120mm of travel, making for an effective compromise for endurance events and technical courses. A 15mm thru-axle enhances steering precision further. Internal cable routing keeps shifting smooth during muddy or messy rides.
Shimano's off-road components have been setting the perfomance and reliability bar for years, and the Anthem SX 27.5 is practically covered with them. 10-speed SLX Rapidfire Plus shifters allows the rider to either push or pull the shift lever to drop from a large cog or chainring to a smaller one. A Deore front derailleur and XT Shadow + rear derailleur operate with lightning quickness, while a 38/24T SLX crankset and 11-36T Shimano cassette offer a masssive gearing range for roller-coaster courses. Shimano's SLX hydraulic disc brake calipers and 180mm front/160mm rear rotor set reign in speed with excellent lever feedback. Alloy P XC-2 27.5 wheels are shod with 27.5x2.25 Schwalbe tires for confident grip on the trails. Giant's alloy Contact seatpost, stem, low rise handlebar and saddle complete the cockpit of the trail-conquering machine.
