The Trek Silque is the answer to a couple of questions: "Can I get a lightweight road bike that isn't just meant for racing?" "Can I get a well-fitting road bike that also handles corners well?" "Are there women's road bikes that are really made for women, and don't just fit differently?"

When Trek studied female riders, they discovered that their power output and weight distribution was different than men in several ways. They also concluded that the average bicycle was built with Joe Average American in mind. The materials being used were overly stiff and heavy, making the ride quality of a "men's" bike too harsh. Trek decided to embark on a new design that worked better for women: Silque

The Trek Silque works better for female riders in several ways. First, the OCLV 400 Series carbon fiber material isn't used excessively, resulting in a lighter frame weight and better overall ride quality for riders lighter than "Joe Average". The Silque's frame and fork is only as strong as it needs to be, and the resulting frame shape has elegant and sweeping look. The Silque's E2 tapered head tube adds a precise feel in high-speed turns, whie the BB90 bottom bracket anchors the crankset for flex-free power delivery. Adding to the Silque's ride quality is the revolutionary IsoSpeed decoupler found at the seat tube/top tube juncture. A pair of cartridge bearings allow the seat tube to flex vertically, soaking up harsh pavement and potholes effectively. The Silque's geometry is, of course, designed to fit women better. The short top tube and taller head tube in a given size fits a wider range of riders and flexibilties better. Useful touches like a 3S chain keeper makes dropped chains (and resulting greasy fingers) a thing of the past. An aperture in the left chainstay allows the installation of an ANT+ DuoTrap speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) without zip-ties. Even removeable eyelets for fenders add to the Silque's versatility.

Shimano's redesigned 10-speed Tiagra components are a worthy match for the Silque. Adjustable-reach levers allow for smaller hands, while derailleur cables now run under the handlebar tape for a clutter-free road bar. The 50/34T compact Tiagra crankset and 11-32T 10-speed Tiagra cassette offer a wide gearing range for challenging hills and inclines. Tiagra derailleurs need less hand strength to operate, making shifting easier. Bontrager alloy tubeless-ready wheels feature bladed spokes for defeating challenging headwinds. Bontrager's 25mm R1 Hard-Case tires add confident grip on high-speed turns and descents. Bontrager's latest Ajna saddle and shallow-drop Race V-RS handlebar make for a comfortable fitting cockpit.
