Cross-country racing is challenging, dirty and exhausting, but the search for your first XC bike shouldn't be that hard.

An XC hardtail is more than just a great start for off-road adventures and races. It teaches handling skills and responds to pedal input with equal eagerness. The Giant Fathom 29 2 will help every first-time off-road rider and racer begin that journey, and do it with maximum value. The Fathom 29 2 is built aroud a light ALUXX-SL aluminum frame, ensuring excellent handling, climbing and pedaling response. A tapered OverDrive head tube adds a precise feel in tight and twisty singletrack, while a press-fit bottom bracket ensures flex-free power delivery. Internal cable routing adds a clean look, too. With an air-adjustable SR Suntour Raidon XC suspension fork, the Fathom 29 2 can tackle rock gardens and technical terrain with confidence. 9-speed Shimano shifters operate Shimano Deore derailleurs, adding fingertip precision to the Fathom 29 2's drivetrain. Shimano also supplies the hydraulic disc brakes, adding excellent stopping power even in wet and messy conditions. Alloy 29'er wheels are shod with 29x2.20" Maxxis Ikon tires, boasting considerable grip over gravel, dirt and mud.
