Elgin Balloon Tire Bicycle
Very unique Elgin in great shape!
This auction is for a Vintage Elgin women's balloon tire bicycle. The frame and fork are in great shape, but need some paintwork. Definitely rideable. This bike is rather unique as the frame tubes are definitely not what you see every day. The seat tube is laid back somewhat, and the seat stays and chainstays are both Unistays - one tube coming off the main frame and seamlessly transitions to the left and right stays. Also, the matching fenders / chainguard/ dressguard. Excellent lines - needs paint, but...
Missing the rear center stand but still has the retainer clip on the back of the rear fender.
Very unique Elgin air cooled hubs - good chrome, but needs lots of cleaning. The solid chainring is also very unique.
Skiptooth drive train, smooth chain that works well.

Most likely a 1930's model, definitely pre-war.
Specifications:
Seatpost - solid skinny "L" shaped post
Saddle - Person's "quilted" saddle, its a neat saddle, almost a banana saddle... in white with no rips - most likely not original
Stem - steel quill style, needs chrome work
Handlebars - 20" steel cruiser style, needs chrome work
Crankset - 1 piece steel crankset, with solid chainring - very unique
Pedals - womens block style pedals, worn, but matching, 3.5"
hubs - Elgin air cooled hubs, need some cleaning, but they both spin nice. The rear brake will need an overhaul as its a little light.
rims - Dropcenter balloon tire style, was once white/ cream, but too much rust now.
tires - Schwinn Typhoon cord rear tire, Goodyear front, both 26 x 2.125, both showing lots of cracks - usable, but need to be replaced if for a rider
