Details
This is a vintage early 1980's Motobecane City-Becane. This collectible is one of the first mountainbikes on the market, similar to the Stumpjumper from Specialized, but more geared to riding the streets of a town than any off-road. All it needed was knobby tires and a better marketing department, and this bike would have rivaled even the best bikes from Specialized, Cannondale, and Ross. The components are stacked for durability - Diacompe Cantilever brakes (power!), Suntour long cage touring rear derailleur, Sachs Huret front der, Shimano Brake levers. Everyone from Japan represented on this bike. The only non-Japanese part on the bike is the Nervar crank - which is nice in its own right. And don't forget the French hubs - Sachs Maillard front and rear. The pedals are from Shimano, the AX style, but without the toeclips. Big fat Weinmann rims round out the component package.
Sweet Motobecane bmx handlebar and stem.
Notice the very cool Sachs Huret thumbshifters.
***Missing the original front fork, rear Duopar rear derailleur, seat, brake levers, and pedals.
