1970's Colnago Road Bicycle

1970's Colnago Road Bicycle

Product Review (submitted on January 29, 2022):

The year of manufacture for this frame is most likely circa 1982 or later (probably closer to '85/'86 given decal design; definitely not a 70s or 90s frame set). The "COLNAGO" stamped chainstay was not a feature on any 1970s frames, and the "clubs" cut out in the bottom bracket shell is of a newer design which came about in the early to mid 1980s. I have 2 Colnago Supers (circa 1979-1981) and neither have that style chain stay or BB shell. The "Mexico" decal (if original) may indicate an actual Mexico frame set (Columbus "Record" tubes) instead of a Super frame set (Columbus "SL" tubes). The Mexico frame was modified with crimps/indentations along the top and down tubes circa 1983 (early frames having 2 per tube, later frames having 4 indentations on down tube). My 1986 Nouvo Mexico has the indentations (2 @ TT, 4 @ DT), with the "COLNAGO" stamped chain stay. Super models were made with and without indentations (most without). Also, later models circa 1990 and later had internal TT cable routing and received fancy paintwork. For reference I have 7 Colnagos (2 Supers circa '79-'81, Saronni Criterium circa mid '80s, Nouvo Mexico 2nd gen 1986, Carbitubo circa '90-'92, Super Piu circa '93, Asso 2001) and I have researched this marque thoroughly through the years.
