This is a vintage 1951 Schwinn built BF Goodrich Hornet balloon tire bicycle. This bicycle was dated to March 22, 1951.
Overall appearance is just about rough but almost rideable. With some work and a full tune, including some overhauling of bearings, this bike would make a decent rider.
The paint is now a rust and faded white color - rough, no gloss, scratches, mars.
This bicycle was built by Schwinn but badged as a BF Goodrich. Almost an exact twin to boys equipped Standard from 1951, this one has a specific "Built by Schwinn" BF Goodrich headbadge.
Headbadge is in good shape but faded. Reads BF Goodrich Schwinn built.
Front light is missing, seat has a few issues (bent springs, rips, tears), lots of surface rust...
Original front wheel is missing. Rear wheel is original, but has been sprayed silver.
Chrome is rough. Fender ends look a little chewed on, but are functionable. Dents abound.
