You are buying a vintage used Raleigh Sports Tourist ladies lightweight bicycle. Made in Nottingham England in 1952, the Sports Tourist (Model 23L) was their second tier tourist/lightweight bicycle in Raleighs line-up, featuring Raleighs proprietary Dyno-Three rear hub/dyno model from Sturmey Archer (first introduced in 1946). This bike is equipped with most of it's original accessories, unfortunately some, like the seat tube mounting "dry battery unit" and corresponding tail lamp are not present. The front lamp is original and has a nice matching paint job to match the bicycle, we're not certain of it's functionality unfortunately as at some point the electronic wiring that attached to the battery unit and dynohub was cut and would need to be replaced (this lighting system offered a unique feature in that you could flick a switch on the underside of the lamp that, when stopped, would switch the power from the dynohub to the batteries). Other genuine Raleigh accessories include the lightweight alloy kickstand (cracked at the top), handlebar grips matching fenders and full chain case (well...not completely full, a portion is missing), matching frame mounted tire pump, saddle bag (moldy and in pieces but still kind of cool), locking front fork (key not present), and Raleigh rubber block pedals. Unfortunately the Dunelt horn is heavily corroded on the exterior however the unit is intact with it's original button. The Brooks B66L leather saddle is still in good ride-able condition. The overall quality of the British made steel lightweight bicycle still shines through and has maintained itself very well over the years. The dark green paint job and decals have a rich patina to them and would require very little work if one wished to restore this bicycle to all of it's former glory. Also included with this auction is the original Raleigh maintenance manual which covers a wide variety of methods concerning how to maintain your Raleigh. Mechanically the bike has not been checked over by our shops mechanics so we're uncertain of the drive-train or dynohubs functionality. An excellent project bike, please see photographs for details.
