Details
This is a vintage Vim 28" wooden wheeled motobike style bicycle. This bicycle was most likely built in the 1920's - no hard evidence, but based on the style of frame, hubs, and other parts, the 1920's most matches.
The color is mostly rust, but it has a green coat under the rust, and under the rust is an orange and under the orange is a clay red color. Not sure if the green was the original color, and the orange was part of the green while the clay red was primer... So, rust the color is. But our best guess is an original red color.
No nickel or chrome left on the bike.
Fenders are in rough shape but are usable. They originally had mudflaps on the backs of the fenders, but those are gone and only left the holes. These fenders seem original and are the stepped version.
Tires are York 28x1 1/2". The tires are mostly shot, but the front actually holds air (the rear valve is missing).
The wooden rims are not broken, but have several chips and no paint left. Several spokes in the rear are broken, and thus not rideable.
The hubs are New Departure Model A coaster brake rear, and a Model M front hub. No nickel or chrome.
The skiptooth drivetrain will need some help as its a bit stiff from rust.
The crank is not shiny anymore, and the crankarms on both sides look like they were welded back together - see pictures.
Pedals seem to be torringtons, in very rough shape.
The Troxel (?) saddle is in mostly rough shape. the leather top, althoug free of major rips, pulls off completely revealing a really comfortable base of wood. ow.
The front of the saddle is wired to the top tube.
On the front of the stem is a neat mount, probably for a light? The handlebar clamp bolt holds this mount on, and it cantilevers into the stem itself to tighten down the handlebar. See pics.
Bars are wide, with no nickel/chrome. No grips and the bolt on the top of the stem seems a little odd.
**missing: any type of kickstand/rear mount stand, tank, rear rack. --- Not sure if these were ever part of the bike, but they aren't here now.
There's quite a bit of rust on the bike, and we have not removed the seatpost, wheels, stem, or cranks. We don't know if they are rusted in.
