Details

This is a vintage 1930's Monark Silver king Ladies Bicycle.  Aluminum tubing constructed using "mushroomed" tubes and chromed steel fork blades with no suspension.  Aesthetically the frame is in pretty good condition and has a nice patina from over the years.  The bike is mostly original.  The fenders have several dings and dents, but they have the front and rear lamps/accent pieces.  The crank is the original crank and the block pedals appear to be the original Torringtons, but are very worn.  Tires do not match and are not original, but are in good shape nonetheless.  Both front and rear are fully functional.  The bike is rideable but will require some small drive train tuning/lubricating to get back to fully operational.  Very cool bike and with a little tlc and elbow grease would make for a great project bike.

Year is most likely 1935 - Monark only built the windowless lugs in 1935.

This ladies bicycle has the triple step Lobdell rims, window lugs, and stainless fenders.  Also has the original short front fender light.
Monark was a unique company that had its start as a battery manufacturer from the early part of the century.  There are quite a few art deco touchs on all of the aluminum models from Monark Silver King.  Lights, head tubes, rear stays, bottom brackets.  The designers must have had fun going from batteries to bicycles.

Monark began building aluminum bicycles under the name Silver King in the 1930s and continued their production into the 1950s. Their unique style and light weight made them extremely appealing. Silver King also developed a monthly payment plan, making their purchase a bit more palatable for depression era consumers on a tight budget. This model is particularly interesting and unusual featuring open “windows” in the lugs.

Made in Chicago, IL, U.S.A.

**No rear stand, the uni-chainstay tube behind the bb was drilled and clamped at one time, most likely for a centerstand/kickstand.  Showing a bit of crushing around the edges of the whole.

Steel handlebars, steel round fenders (rear fenders have dress guard holes lining the edges, straight steel truss rods, short light, missing the battery tube and rear lens.
Cloverleaf marked bell included on handlebars, doesn't work though.
