Details

This auction is for a Vintage Japanese 1940's or 50's mixte bicycle.  The bike has a rod brake front and the rear is a rod down to the hub where it turns into a band brake.  No known manufacturers marks that we have seen.  The fenders have a Clover name on them, and the chainring is marked with an "M".  The bike does have an interesting emblem of a jet on the front of the fender.  This leads us to believe that the bike is a 1950's model.  The frame is in good shape, in what seems to be the original light blue color.  Lots of scratches, but no dents or dings on the frame.  Some surface rust is starting especially where the frame is missing paint.  The frame is a lugged steel frame with nice lugs and a rear facing dropout.  Fenders are in good shape and both fender badges are still on the bike - also in good shape. The fork crown has a picture of an unknown animal on it, but no other markings are on the frame itself.

Measurements:
Seat Tube 19'
Top Tube 21.5"
Stand-over Height 23"

The bike is a light robins egg blue, with silver paint in place of most of where chrome would be used.

Specifications:
Seatpost - steel, assumed original but is not
Saddle - Leather brooks style springer, "Special" Gents model
Stem- extra high stem (to account for better standover clearance?) - 8" high and about 2" long
Handlebar - rod brake bar, 1 piece with the stem
Brakes - rod style brakes with a rod actuated band brake for the rear
Crankset - steel 3 piece cottered crank with an "M" on the chainwheel
Pedals - block rat trap hybrid, used but still spin freely
hubs - front, steel with an oiler, rear - single speed hub with a single speed freewheel and a "High Band Class Brake M.Y.K" actuated by a rod.
rims - front rim is marked with an "M", rod brake style and about 1 3/4" wide, rear rim is marked with a "Kaga", and is 1 1/2" wide, rim brake style.  The front is painted silver, while the rear is also 26" painted silver, but seems to have been chromed under the paint.
Tires - Japanese branded, 26 x 1 3/8 - both tires are shot and unusable
Freewheel (number of gears/tooth range)
