You could be the proud owner of this vintage used Gitane Gypsy (a model named after the company itself as Gitane translates to the feminine tense of Gypsy in French) road bicycle. Produced for the 1975 model year (via input, catalog scans, and component dating) it is a unique piece of French bicycle nostalgia. Gitane was a huge contributor to the “bike boom” in the USA during the early 1970s and along with some other manufacturers introduced the first truly affordable lightweight racing bicycles to the American public.
BIKE CONDITION
The bike appears to be have had many parts replaced over the course of it's life and features Campagnolo hubs and SunTour bar end shifters. The sky blue paint is in good shape with few scratches, chips and marks aside from the worn area on the top tube. There are no major dents, bends or cracks.
This bike rides, shifts and brakes well but will need a full tune up before being ready to hit the road. The rear wheel especially will need some attention from a skilled mechanic as it has numerous loose spokes.
This bike is being sold as is. Please see photographs for additional details.
