Details
Schwinn was the first to mass produce a BMX bicycle in 1975 with the Scrambler. Schwinn Chicago continued to produce the Scrambler until 1980.
From the 1979 Schwinn Catalog: "Here's your chance to get in on all the fun and excitement of BMX action without making a big investment. The new Phantom [Scrambler] features exclusive Schwinn BMX frame design, competition style saddle, coaster brake, Schwinn Sting-Ray braced handlebar, Schwinn forged fork, and 20 x 2.125" Schwinn Scrambler tires.
The Schwinn Phantom [Scramblers] are perfect for street or easy off-road use, but with the quick responses of a true BMX racing machine.
This mostly original made in Chicago, USA bicycle is a beautiful example of an early BMX bicycle. Perfect for the collector, enthusiast or as a nostalgic piece, it's in great shape. The black paint on the handlebar and frame has worn down to the red primer in many spots, but down to bare metal in only a couple. The seat is torn and there is a dent in the top of the chainguard. The chrome is in good shape, and the wheels still shine. The rear tire's gumwall is cracking and the front tire has been replaced with a newer tire that is true to the style of the original.
BICYCLE CONDITION:
The bicycle has a few chips and scratches in paint, and is in good condition for the year that is was manufactured. The bicycle is free of major damage including bends and cracks.
This bicycle has been tuned and fully overhauled right down to re-greasing and packing of the bearings (hubs, bottom bracket and headset) by a shop mechanic with many years of experience. Then the bicycle was test ridden and given a thorough eighty-three point inspection by the owner. Finally the owner rode the bicycle in every gear checking steering, braking, and shifting. After you receive this bicycle, minimal adjustments and assembly will be needed to be ready to ride.
This bicycle is being sold as is, please see photographs for details.
