You are buying a 1967 Sears-made Spyder, a rare muscle bike in solid condition. The late 1960s saw a boom in the bicycle business, and kid's bikes were far and away the largest part of that. The Sting Ray-style muscle bike added a new level of style, and all manner of manufacturers were quick to copy that design - including Sears.
Bike enthusiasts looking for a rare collectible piece of American cycling history will love this entry into the muscle bike craze. It features ape hanger handlebars and a shortened banana seat, and this model has a girl's step-through frame. Its color scheme is a beautiful turquoise, accented by white on the handlebar grips, seat, and paint graphics. The Spyder name appears in white on the chain guard. This bike comes with a Sachs Torpedo Boy coaster brake hub.
The paint has been chipped, especially on the chain guard, and the chrome of the handlebars and front fender is scratched. The rear fender is relatively unmarred. The grips are scraped and the seat has a large crack in it. There is some rust on the hubs, crankset, pedals, kickstand, and places where the paint or chrome has been scratched. The tires do not have dry rot, though, and this bike rides.
With a quick tune-up this Spyder would make a fun bike for a girl from ages 5-9, and it's a real find for a collector of bicycles from the bike boom era.
