This is a 1972 Marfields 16" Funster convertible child's bicycle.  This bicycle can change from a boys bike to a girls bike with the quick removal of the top tube by a pair of screws.  This bicycle was originally sold in the Marshall Fields department stores in the 1970's.

The magenta paint is in ok shape, but has the normal scratches and mars.  The purple color is also starting to fade in various places on the bike, but the chromed fenders and chainguard are in good shape, as is the handlebars.  The grips and seat - all original - are also showing age and wear.  See pictures.

This bicycle was built by Murray directly for Marshall Fields. 

The Funster should fit kids from about age 5 to 7 or so. 

Coaster brake rear hub, Murray Eliminator style chainguard, funky seat, and the Magenta color all really make this bike.  Add to that the clear plastic headbadge, and its a nice collector piece.
