This auction is for a Vintage 1939 Huffman Dixie Flyer Twin Flex bicycle. Very rare, very collectible. This bicycle has very little paint - you can just see the designs used for the paint on the fenders and frame - it was white spearing into a darker color, with some pinstriping. The original gothic fenders had a duo-tone paint. The seat post, saddle, crankset, fenders, fork, headset, are all original. Not sure about the wheels - the deep drop center rims look original, and the same with the New Departure rear hub, but the front hub is a schwinn.
Original Dixie Flyer headbadge is in good shape.
S tube downtube.
The original Twin Flex bicycle, nicknamed the "Death Bike", was recalled because of serious design flaws with the suspension design. This twin flex up for auction is the newer re-designed model. The death bike caused serious issues with Huffman, losing several contracts with other companies like Firestone, Dayton, National, and La France. Because the of the serious design flaws - even in this newly redesigned 1939 model - Huffman only produced it for a few years.
At the juncture of the seat tube and bottom bracket, there is a repair of the frame. The brass is holding, but its not as pretty as it could have been.
Missing the original wheels, handlebar, chainguard, tank, and stem. Also missing the front light and rear rack.
