This is a vintage Elgin 4 star Deluxe balloon tire bicycle from around 1940 (+/- a year or two). The paint on this bike is actually fairly nice. Most of the details have survived - 4 stars on the fork with the white arrow, the details on the top, middle, down, and seat tubes have all survived fairly well. The white has started to brown out and has chipped off on the top tube. The main frame color has quite a few scratches. The lighter blue on the fenders and chainguard has quite a few scratches. Surface rust is appearing where the paint has left.
Missing the tank. Also, this bike has a kickstand, not the drop stand mounted off the rear dropouts. The kickstand is neat though - its a square instead of round.
Also missing the original Elgin grips.
The rear rack has the cannister type light. The lens is intact without cracks. The rear rack is discolored but not bent and overall in good shape.
The gothic fenders are in good shape, other than the paint in places.
The bike was made by Murray in Ohio. Very neat smooth welds. Sweet headbadge too. Teal and orange.
