Vintage American Monark Junileu!
Up for auction is this 1950's Monark Jubileu (or PanAmerica?)  vintage bicycle. The bike is nearly covered in rust and is not rideable in it's current state. Might have been painted red. Everything seems to be original, with the exception of the front wheel and tire. The saddle has lots of tears (unusable), is very loose and pivots freely. The chain guard is missing a mounting bolt and has some bending damage - also is ripped on the bottom. The handlebars have no grips on them. The head badge is missing. The front fender is also missing, and the rear fender is bent.
This bike was originally a rod brake bike but was converted at sometime.  The frame is bracketed for the rod brakes on the downtube.  It also has a bracket on the front fork that could have been for the rod brakes or a light...

The headtube has beautifull lug work.  The lugs spear down the top and down tubes for about 5 inches and are marked with the crown of Monark.
Some frame paint and markings still remain, (see pictures), especially on the seattube.  Pin striping is visible on the rear fender and the frame it self.
There is also a storage box (empty) on the underside of the springer type wide rear rack.

This Monark could be from an earlier year than the 50's.  Monark used the 1/2 chain - instead of the inch-pitch chain - from 1935.

Monark Silver King Inc. (formerly Monark Battery Co.) created some of the coolest bikes of the balloon tire era. Most sought after are the aluminum models, such as the Flocycle and Wingbar. One of the most popular models during the late 1940's and 1950's was the Monark Super Deluxe. Monark continued making bicycles into the middle-weight era, with some very stylish models. People often confuse "Monarch" with "Monark". Monarch was a bicycle company from the 1890's era and not related to Monark in any way.
