This auction is for a Vintage 1963 Columbia Newsboy Special balloon tire bicycle. Please note the rear rack is actually part of the whole frame. This '63 Newsboy Special is all original: heavy duty wheels, built in rack, oiler in the extra long chainguard, full coverage fenders. This bike is in ok shape, but has front wheel issues, a rusty chain, ripped seat, and needs quite a bit of cleaning. Excellent project bike.
The paint has very little of the gloss still left, with the frame having the best color and the fenders having the worst color fading issues.
Headbadge is in great shape. Also, the chainguard is in great shape. The frame has several scratches - through the paint - which have surface rust in them. The seat is original but needs to be recovered. The Columbia decal on the seattube is mostly missing and in poor shape. Chainguard decal is in great shape.
The back edge of the front fender is rusted and missing a chunk.
The bike also has a front light mounted to the stem and a rear view mirror on the left side handlbar.
Orginal fork truss even has the plastic ends.
Built in 1963 in Westfield, Mass, USA, by Columbia.
Columbia is the last name of the company that started as Pope manufacturing in 1877. Westfield Manufacturing became independent of Torrrington in 1961, taking the name Columbia Manufacturing.

tires - Goodyear Studded Tread balloon style tire, 26 x 2.125, cracked and worn but still rideable
